Police arrest man for allegedly killing girlfriend in Imo

The police have confirmed the arrest of a man over the alleged killing of his 30-year-old girlfriend in Owerri, the Imo State capital.The Guardian learnt that the deceased’s body was found in a drainage, near an uncompleted building on Madumere Street, Owerri.

According to an unknown voice in a viral video at the weekend, the deceased had visited her boyfriend, simply identified as Nwaneri, in the first week of January, but never returned.

The discovery of her body drew the attention of the owner of the building and residents around the area. It was learnt that the owner contacted the police who, in turn, evacuated the corpse and commenced investigation.

Later, it was uncovered that the deceased was an orphan while the boyfriend is a vigilante member in the area. As at press time, the reason for killing the lady remained unknown. Sources said she hailed from Umuayala, Egbu, Owerri North Local Council.

Confirming the incident, police spokesperson in the state, Henry Okoye, said: “The suspect is still in police custody. The command intends to carry out an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death of the victim. The suspect will be arraigned in court after the completion of a comprehensive investigation.”
