Police nab seven suspected killers of Ebonyi traditional ruler

Ebonyi State Police Command, yesterday, said it has arrested seven persons  in connection to the attack and murder of His Royal Highness (HRH), Eze Christopher Igboke Ewa.


The 76-year- old Eze Ewa of Umu-Ezekoha Community in Ezza North Local Council  of the state was on  February 27, 2023,  attacked and murdered in his palace by gunmen.

Spokesperson for the Command,  Onome Onovwakpoyeya, in a statement, said after the incident , the Command swung into action and seven out of the 10 suspects were arrested, noting that they have given useful information.

He said: “Sequel to the attack and murder of HRH Eze Christopher Igboke Ewa, a formal complaint was made at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Achiagu Ezza North LGA by his son,  Igboke Samuel Onyema that on February 27, 2023, HRH Eze Christopher Igboke Ewa was murdered,  indicting one Prof. Bernard Odoh and others .

“In the course of investigation, seven suspects out of ten were apprehended and during interrogation, three of the suspects made useful confessional statements to the police and mentioned some of their collaborators in the gruesome murder of the traditional ruler, who are presently at large.

“In addition,  one of the suspects further deposed in his statement that the suspects/collaborators now at large work for one Professor Benard Odoh, as his strong men, with a Hilux Jeep given to them for mobility”.

“Investigation further reveals that some of the alleged collaborators were with Professor Benard Odoh in his village on February 24 and 25, 2023, where the attack was planned and concluded before it was dastardly executed.

“The Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State, Faleye Olaleye, while commending the efforts of police operatives, assured that the Command shall continue in its statutory responsibilities of protecting life and property, as well as ensure that criminal element/s are denied the space to carry out their nefarious activities”.
