Protest trails murder of pastors in Akwa Ibom community

Residents of Ikot Ntuen in Ekpenyong Atai 2, in Essien Udim Local Council of Akwa Ibom State have protested against the murder of their son, Prophet Elisha Asuquo and his assistant, Pastor Aniekan Ibanga.

The cleric was allegedly murdered at his Church, Mount of Solution Redeem Church, Ikot Ekang in Abak Local Council of the state alongside his assistant.

Speaking during a protest from Ikot Ntuen Ekpenyong Atai village hall at the deceased’s compound, the Village council Chairman, Mr Obot Akpan Udouko, said the deceased was murdered on March 15 with his assistant pastor, Ibanga, leaving behind his family and four children, including one-month-old son.


Udouku appealed to the State governor, Umo Eno, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Chairman of Abak Local Council, Mr. Ekerette Inyang, his Essien Udim counterpart, Mr. Anthony Luke, and other well meaning citizens of the state to intervene in the matter.

In their separate remarks, women leader of the village, Mrs Paulina Fidelis Akpan, youth leader, Uduak Williams Akpan, Nto Ewere Family Chairman, Atuekong Hon, Iyakndue William Thomas, among others, expressed displeasure over the murder of their sons.

They urged the state government to come to the aid of the young widow and the deceased’s children.

The late prophet was the founder of
Mount of Solution Redeem Church, Ikot Ekang in Abak Local Council, while Pastor Aniekan Ibanga was his assistant pastor.

They were both shot dead at the church premises at Ikot Ekang at about 7:30 p.m. on March 15.

Although the matter has been reported to the police, the family said they are not satisfied with the way it is being handled.

They demanded justice for their son, and called on the government to give succour to those he left behind.
