Rangers, Pillars to battle as Federation Cup resumes next week

Rangers International defeated Kano Pillars the last time they met in the President Federation Cup.

The highlight of the round of 64 of the rebranded President Federation Cup, which holds next week, is a repeat of the 2018 edition of the country’s oldest cup competition when Enugu Rangers came from 0-3 down to beat Kano Pillars via penalties to win that year’s competition.

This time, the two teams will meet in the round of 64 of the competition in Abuja on May 5.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), yesterday, released the programme for the competition, which round of 64 matches will hold on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

Apart from Abuja, other cities that will host the 32 matches are Kaduna, Owerri, Lafia, Awka, Enugu, Benin City, Ibadan, Asaba, Ilorin, Aba and Kano.

In some of the other round of 64 games, defending champions, Bendel Insurance will play against Ogun State’s Stormers FC in Abuja, Ikorodu FC versus Kaduna’s Green Berets, Enyimba against Warinje FC (Bauchi), Rivers United versus Ikukuoma FC (Imo) in Aba and Doma United of Gombe against Gamji Eaglets (Taraba) in Bauchi.

According to the NFF, the women’s teams, whose competition will take off at the round of 32, will sit out next week’s battles but will take to the battlegrounds when the men are also fighting for slots in the round of 16.
