Rivers Crisis: Youths task Police on neutrality

Rivers State Governor Siminalaye Fubara

With the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, some youths have tasked the police to conduct its duties professionally and with utmost neutrality.

The youth, under the aegis of SIM Media Volunteers, alleged that loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, were conniving with the police to harass Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s supporters.

The spokesperson of the group, Samuel Kilsi Adoo, in Port Harcourt, yesterday, urged Wike’s supporters to desist from every act of violence and work towards bringing peace to the oil rich state.

Adoo stated: “We acknowledge that the police play crucial roles in maintaining law and order. It is pertinent to note that they demonstrate this by instilling fairness and in strict adherence to the provisions of the constitution while discharging their duties in Rivers State.

“We call on the Inspector General of Police to rein in his men and exercise restraint by stopping the unnecessary attack or wanton arrest on any of the governor’s supporters, as further harassment could lead to anarchy and breakdown of law and order that may not do our state any good.”

The group further called on President Bola Tinubu to advise the FCT Minister and his followers to toe the path of peace.
