Salau tasks Nigerians on humanitarian services at rotary anniversary

Nigerians have been urged to take humanitarian services very seriously with a view to rising up to the challenges of economic recession that has hit many homes, depriving them of food on their tables.


The President, Rotary Club of Onigbongbo, District 9110, Lagos, Nigeria Mr.  Babatunde  Salau, gave the admonition during the celebration of Rotary Day of Service as well as Rotary Foundation Nite.

Salau said: “Rotary Day of Service is in commemoration of the anniversary of Rotary, founded February 23, l905, which is normally celebrated as Day of Service and the week it falls in as the Week of Service as well.

“Our Club also has the tradition of having the month of February as the month of our Rotary Foundation when we celebrate our members as well as friends of Rotary who have been magnanimous enough to donate to Rotary Foundation.


“Rotary Foundation is the engine room for Rotary International  from where funds are drawn to execute big projects in Rotary International seven areas of focus.
“For example, we drew from the fund in January the sum of $14 million and gave to the Federal government for the purpose of polio eradication.”

Salau commended the five celebrated donors into Rotary Foundation at the event which according to him were two non Rotarians and three Innerwheel members who enriched the fund with $1,000.00 each and earned the title “Paul Haris” fellow.

He disclosed that the pool from which global grant is secured is available to both clubs and districts to execute big projects while the club looks forward to benefit from same in the provision of more equipment for the Primary Health Centre under construction now, to be completed the next Rotary year.
