Sanwo-Olu tells Lagos Hajj pilgrims to be worthy ambassadors, shun illegality

Intending pilgrims from Lagos State preparing to perform this year’s Hajj have been advised to be good ambassadors of the state by conducting themselves well in the holy land of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-olu gave the advice on Thursday during a seminar and prayers organised by the Lagos State Muslim Welfare Board for the 2024 intending pilgrims before their airlifting to Saudi Arabia from Friday.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Mr Lawal Pedro SAN, explained that the peace and prosperity that Lagos enjoys is as a result of the continuous religious harmony existing in the state.

Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr Ibrahim Layode, who thanked the state governor for his support towards the preparation of the 2024 Hajj, urged the pilgrims to take all teachings and guidelines given to them seriously to make their Hajj pilgrimage a hitch-free exercise.


In his lecture, Sheikh Abdulrazak Lukmon, Chief Imam of Ansar-rudeen, Igbogbo while speaking on the topic “Significance of Hajj in the life of a Muslim”, explained that Hajj which is the fifth pillar of Islam is meant to boost the relationship between man and God.

Sheikh Lukmon urged all stakeholders in the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage to work together in harmony to ensure an hitch free exercise.


Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman, Lagos state Muslim Welfare Board, Alhaji Abdul-Gafar Mofeshaye said the seminar and prayers is the climax of all preparations for the 2024 Hajj before the airlifting of pilgrims.

On hand to provide insight in how to have a hitch free Hajj exercise were the state official airline airlift the Lagos pilgrims, the Nigeria Police Force and the National Orientation Agency, (NOA). They are spoke on the dos and donts that pilgrims must imbibe in Saudi Arabia.
