Soldier dies fighting ISWAP at Borno border community

Troops of 21 Armoured Brigade, Bama, Borno State, have repelled Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the border township and, in the process, lost a gallant officer.

The Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) troops engaged the terrorists at the perimeter fence of the Bama Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp. A counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday, in Maiduguri that the terrorists burst into the border town from the Sambisa axis through Yarmari Gana about 2.00a.m. to attack the IDPs, comprising mainly women and children.

He noted that the brigade and the battalion, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), between April 17 and 20, 2023, had neutralised 35 terrorists and captured their commander, Alhaji Ba’ana alive.

They also reportedly destroyed 12 camps of the Boko Haram terrorists in Bama. Similarly, ISWAP terrorists also carried out another attack on Pulka, a border community in Gwoza local council. A military source in Maiduguri also confirmed that, while the terrorists were being repelled, a soldier paid the supreme price.
