SON to clampdown on fake products, manufacturers

SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunoso Okeke

The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has again warned manufacturers of fake products to desist from the act or face the full wrath of the law.

The Director-General of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunoso Okeke, stated this, yesterday, while interacting with Commerce and Industry Correspondents of Nigeria (CICAN), in Abuja.

Okeke said going forward SON will be embarking on clampdown on fake products and their manufacturers, including charging them to court.

According to him, SON will now make it compulsory for every product to carry SON CAP logo that will identify the product as genuine

“You know before now, the agency has continued to ensure that locally made products carry the Manufacturers Association of Nigerian (MAN) Cap, but going forward, we are making it mandatory for locally manufactured products to carry the MAN and SON Caps, while any product that fails to adhere to this guidelines will be confiscated and the manufacturers prosecuted immediately”.

The SON boss added that unlike NAFDAC that oversees only drug manufacturing, SON oversees all products manufactured in Nigeria for proper certification.

He called for collaboration with CICAN to win the war against fake products.

Earlier, CICAN Chairman, Ifeanyi Onuba, who congratulated the DG on his appointment, said it is unfortunate that SON has not been relating with the media, especially in the area of information dissemination on its activities.

He, however, assured the SON leadership that journalists would give their maximum support to ensure the fight against adulterated products is won.
