Speaking at a workshop for civil societies, community representatives and the media orgainsed by the African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) with support from USAID, PIND and LITE-Africa on improving citizen’s engagement with Niger Delta development agencies in Benin city, ANEEJ’s Programme Officer, Innocent Edemhanria, said it was worrisome that residents of the oil-rich had struggled to fully understand the mandate of each of these agencies and how to single out what each of them stood to deliver in terms of development in the region.
He revealed that a total of 84 abandoned projects were identified with Delta and Ondo states toping the list followed by Edo and Cross River states, adding that: “ It was found out that apart from the East West Road, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs is not on ground in the region and many of the community residents neither had heard of nor knew the role of the ministry,” Edemhanria said.
