Nigeria Superheavyweight boxer, Ifeanyi Emmanuel, has signed a sponsorship deal with O’jez Entertainment Group, with a view to promoting his career from the amateur level to the paid ranks.
Emmanuel was the only Nigerian boxer to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, despite the 2022 Games being his first-ever appearance in an international boxing competition.
Ahead of the 2024 Olympics, the boxer is in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, attending the AIBA men’s championship holding from April 30 to May 14, where he hopes to qualify for Paris 2024.
“My goal is to qualify for the Olympic Games and be on the podium,” Emmanuel, who started boxing in 2021, stated.
“In Birmingham 2022, I was the only Nigerian medallist in boxing, a bronze, but I am looking forward to a whole lot more. This includes winning gold in Tashkent and qualifying for the Olympics, and of course, I want to be the best in the world.”
He stated that signing a deal with the O’jez Entertainment Group would enable him focus on training in his quest to win gold at the Olympics.
“O’jez will help me with sponsorship for my training, because it is difficult for us, boxers, in Nigeria with regards to camping and training for the competitions.
“With the deal, I would be able to focus on training and work hard to get to the world level,” he stated.
Speaking on Emmanuel’s chances of conquering his weight division, O’jez Entertainment Group Chairman, Mr. Joseph Odobeatu, said it was exciting teaming up with the young boxer, popularly known as Mohammed Ali (Jnr).
“He is one of our brightest hopes in boxing. We are practically looking at the next Anthony Joshua.
“We are throwing our weight behind him because he is talented and would go far in boxing,” Odobeatu stated.
