Suspected illicit drugs dealer, kidnapper nabbed in Delta

Operatives of Dragon Patrol Teams 25 and 31 attached to Delta State Police Command have arrested a 62-year-old suspected illicit drugs dealer along Kwale/Ogwashi-Uku road.


Confirming the incident in Asaba, yesterday, the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the suspect, one David Ikama, was arrested at about 5:00 p.m., on May 22, 2024.

Edafe explained that the police, while on a stop-and-search duty, intercepted the suspect’s white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number FST 210 XD.

He said Ikama, who resides at No. 28, Old Ekete road, Ovwian-Aladja, near Warri, was conveying passengers from Onitsha to Warri when he was caught.


“In their normal proactive way of policing, they subjected the passengers to a search during which some bags loaded with suspected illicit drugs namely 1,266 bottles of Codeine syrup, 604 tablets of Tramadol, 54 tablets of Swinol, 90 sachets of Rohypnol were recovered from the suspect who is currently in custody while investigation is ongoing,”  he said.

Edafe also confirmed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, one Ebube Osakwe, by police operatives.

He said the suspect was arrested in an operation led by the Area Commander, Asaba, ACP Sunday Oladipo, who stormed his hideout.

He revealed that the suspect and his gang members (now at large) carried out a kidnapping in Egu-Agbor and took their victims to the Akoko Edo area in Edo State where they often collect ransom before releasing them .

“Further investigation also revealed that in their last operation, they collected N2.5m from their victims,” he added.
