Tinubu mulls revival of moribund Tsangaya schools in Northern Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has renewed commitment to revive the 970 Tsangaya integrated schools to cater for the needs of out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria.

Tinubu, who revealed this yesterday, at the grand finale of 38th Convocation ceremony of Bayero University, Kano, said investment in all aspect of education will be prioritised by his administration.

The revitalisation of Tsangaya schools may reactivate integrated education system of Almagiria system including the N15b integrated centres established by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012 but now abandon.

Tinubu, represented by Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, said his administration would continue to support education because of its pivotal impact on human capital development.

Assuring of his readiness to improve investment at all levels of education, Tinubu said special focus will be on skill acquisition, technology and vocational education as core drivers of his administration’s policy.


The president disclosed that to actualise the plan, preparation has been concluded to build 24 skill and vocational hubs in public polytechnics as well as entrepreneurship centres in some universities.

He said inauguration of Private Sector Innovation Enterprise Centre, a coordinating centre, will soon be established across the country to deliver on the skill acquisition programme of the government.

On his part, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio pledged the National Assembly’s commitment to support Federal Government’s policy on education. He said the Senate under his leadership will run a people centric legislature that improve on the lives of Nigerians.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Bayero University, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, appealed to the Federal Government to rescue the university from energy supply challenge and insecurity, rising from lack of perimeter fencing at the main campus of the institution.

11, 240 graduated during the convocation ceremony, comprising undergraduate and postgraduate as well as students of Dangote Business School.
Also, the university awarded President of African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina and Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibril, honorary doctorate degrees of Business administration and Law respectively for their contributions to national development.
