Group moves to transform Okemesi-Ekiti community

A university Don, Prof. Taiwo Eniola Mafimisebi, has said that one of the major drivers of socio-economic crises in Nigeria and other countries in sub-Sahara Africa is unemployment.

Mafimisebi, who stated this during the second social economic discourse and investiture of 2022-2024 executive members of The Likes Group (TLG) held at Okemesi-Ekiti, said that not all sub-regions and countries in sub-Sahara Africa experience the same economic growth.

He said Nigeria remains one of the distressed economies with debt and social concerns, including insecurity.

In his opening remarks, Chairman, Planning Committee of TLG, Dr. Bayo Ogunyemi, said the group would Okemesi better for residents.

He said: “We want to continue to talk of Okemesi and by so doing, keep it at the front-burner where it rightly belongs. We will make the town the hub of economic and progressive activities in Ekiti State.

“Our belief is that if one person can turn Ada in Osun State into an international resort map, we can also do it in Okemesi.

“If an individual can change the face of Ota, a peasant village in the remotest part of Ogun State, we can also do it here. If Damilola Adeparusi can find Oye-Ekiti suitable enough to attempt to break the Guinness Book of Records and challenge Baci cook-a-thon world record, we can take the world to Okemesi. If Adams Oshiomhole can make Okpepe, an agrarian town in Edo State the home for world marathon runners, we can make Okemesi the cynosure of the entire world.”

He, however, said that it is the duty of the civil society organisations to partner with government to develop communities, saying that government alone can’t do it alone.

In his acceptance speech after the investiture of the new Mayor and other executive members, Olusina Bode-Adeoye said that the new exco would work with other members to further promote the social, political and economic well-being of Okemesi-Ekiti during their tenure.

He said that after 15 years of its existence, the group had not deviated from its unique aims and objectives.
