The Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone, has said that the collaboration between the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the management of tertiary institutions in Nigeria has led to a tremendous improvement in infrastructural and human capacity development.

He therefore called for more collaborations to ensure that the infrastructural development currently ongoing in the education sector is not truncated.

Professor Esimone, who spoke at the sideline activity of the 52nd Convocation Lecture of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, at the weekend, dispelled rumours that TETFund programmes do not have the buy-ins of the management of the institutions where the projects are being embarked on.

He stated that TETFund and the management of benefiting institutions are always in agreement, and approvals are sought before the projects are executed.

“In all fairness, as the chief executive of a university for about five years, I will say categorically that it is not true because before any project is executed in our universities by TETFund, they consult the management and get our buy-ins and execute the projects according to plan.”

The Vice-chancellor went further to add that he was satisfied with various programmes and projects being organized by TETFund, including training, seminars, noting that tertiary institutions apply for approval in principle for all the programs.

This, he said, buttressed the fact that all TETFUND projects get the approval of the tertiary institutions involved before implementation.

While commending the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Arc. Sonny Echono, for his exemplary management of TETFUND, which has led to the growth of infrastructure in various tertiary institutions, including Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Esimone further sought more projects to boost teaching and learning in the university.
