Another canvasses plastic reduction

A beverage bottling firm, Seven-Up Bottling Company (SBC), has commenced a green environment initiative to plant 2,500 trees across the country.

The initiative, tagged “One Staff One Tree,” was flagged off in partnership with the Lekki Estate Residents & Stakeholders Association (LERSA), and Eco-Restoration Foundation (ERF) along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos, in commemoration of the 2024 World Environmental Day.

Managing Director of the firm, Ziad Maalouf, who commented on the initiative, highlighted the importance of trees in the green environment drive.

MEANWHILE, a telecommunications firm, Airtel Nigeria, yesterday, canvassed plastic reduction nationwide.

Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Carl Cruz, who was represented by Director, Corporate Communications and CSR, Femi Adeniran, during a session on the practice of tackling plastic pollution, said Airtel had taken measures to ensure that the firm promotes a healthy environment.

Also, environmental scientist and advocate, Dr Eugene Itua, who served as the facilitator at the event, shared insights on the pertinent strategies to adopt in combating plastic pollution.

Eugene further stressed the urgent need for a paradigm shift from the traditional “take, use and dispose” approach to a more sustainable “reuse, recycle, reorient and diversify” principle, embodying the circular economy.

He, therefore called for proactive steps to prevent plastic pollution and safeguard the environment.
