Yuletide: MWAN Lagos donates food items to visually-impaired

The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Lagos branch, at the weekend, donated food items to Bethesda Home for the Blind, Lagos.

The items included bags of rice, gallons of oil, cartons of spaghetti and noodles, beverages, and toiletries.

President, Lagos MWAN, Dr Funmi Ige, who spoke on the donation, said the association deemed it fit to reach out by showing love to the vulnerable in the society.

Ige said that the association thought of spreading its helping hands to the non-governmental organisation (NGO) to celebrate with them and for the love of the season as well.

“One of the cardinal areas of focus of this 2023-2025 biennium is to reach out to the physically-challenged

“We thought that this is the best way to start off the major assignment ahead of us, having been sworn-in into the office on November 23, 2023.

“Basically, food is essentially the basic necessities of life and children are a huge task at home in terms of care not to talk of those with virtual disabilities,” Ige said.

Responding, Founder, Bethesda Home for the Blind, ChiomaOhakwe, expressed sincere appreciation and gratitude to MWAN.

Ohakwe said that these days were not easy to feed, not to talk of remembering others.

She said MWAN had shown the spirit of motherhood in them as they decided to bless the less privileged.

One of the teachers and a university graduate from the home, Hammed Kareem, appreciated the wonderful gesture.
